Application
- Request a Kearney Bound application from your HS counselor (See Contact Info)
Basic Requirements a student must meet to be admitted to the Kearney Bound program
- First-generation college prospect
- Neither parent/guardian has a bachelor’s degree.
- Nebraska resident and U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
- Students must have a valid Social Security number verified through the application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Demonstrate academic promise
- Interest in attending the University of Nebraska Kearney
Student Selection Process
In early spring of the freshman year, students from partnering high schools will be selected. A committee composed of high school personnel, in consultation with UNK staff, will review available information and select participants using the following criteria:
- Demonstrated academic promise, ability and motivation to participate
- First-generation college prospect (neither parent has a bachelor’s degree; or if a single parent, the single parent does not have a bachelor’s degree)
- Nebraska resident and U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States
- Parental commitment to have the child participate
- Likely Pell Grant Eligible
Steps to follow:
- Kearney Bound applications are available February 1st of the freshman year
- A typed essay by the student is required with the application
- Applications are due March 1st of the freshman year
- Selection is by a committee of high school and UNK staff
- Scholarships are awarded in May of the freshman year
